A Clinical Study of Foreign Bodies in ENT Field

Abstract
A clinical study of 94 cases of foreign bodies in ENT field who came to the depa-rtment of otolaryngology of Chung Nam University Hospital from Jan. 1975 to Sept. 1976 was performed. The resuts were as follows:
1. In the cases of the esophageal foreign body,- the coin was the most frequently found(68.1%) and meat & food materials, bone piece, badug stone in that order. Peak incidence in age distribution was under 5 years of age in cases of coin(100%). 80.8% of the them were treated within 3 days of accident.
2. In the pharynx the most frequent foreign body was the bone piece(75%). No significant difference of age incidence was noted. The most frequent site of lodge-ment was the palatine tonsil.
3. In the external auditory canal, the incidences of the vegetable, animates and minerals were 42.1%,36.9% and 21. 0%, respectably. Male seemed more frequently in-volved than female..
4. All of the nasal foreign bodies were inanimates, and a piece of paper was the most frequent one(33.3%). Peak incidence of age distribution was under 5 years of age(83.3%).
5. Expired or severely complicated case was not experienced according to the lod-gement of foerign body.
